i didn’t do anything special.
yeah, ok that’s my fave shirt and i bought some markers and posterboard at the downtown CVS before walking over to the #DontShootDallas rally at Main Street Garden.
but i just showed up.
and ok, yeah, i jumped in among the 96% non-white crowd, holding my sign and speaking from my heart.
which was apparently a big deal.
but i didn’t do it for me.
i did it for all of us.
in honor of all the people who don’t look like me, don’t have the same experience as me, but stood [stand] by me anyway.
i did it for every young non-white male who has fears that my white sons will never have.
i did it because people are hurting. and afraid. and feel like they’re alone.
i did it because the statistics are sickening.
i did it for the white people who want to take a stand but for whatever reason don’t. or won’t.
and i did it for the white people who prefer hate over Jesus-commanded love for our neighbors, regardless of their ethnicity.
so i showed up. for all of us.
FOLKS:
we are all Michael Brown.
and Michael Brown is all of us.
what else do we need to motivate us to come together?
